June 2026
June is one of our favourite months of the year. The garden is really finding its stride. The peas are climbing high, fennel is flourishing, lettuces are being picked and the herb beds are overflowing with fragrance.
Tomatoes are racing towards the roof of the polytunnel, while the first dahlias are beginning to show signs of the spectacular display to come later in the summer. The bees have been incredibly busy, moving from flower to flower and helping to pollinate the fruits, vegetables and flowers that will eventually find their way onto our menus. We love a walk through the garden. Harvesting herbs for service, checking on the tomatoes, tying in new growth, succession sowing lettuces and keeping on top of the endless task of weeding.
Jobs for May include:
Harvesting peas, lettuces and herbs
Pinching out tomato side shoots and tying in growth
Succession sowing salads for a continuous harvest
Monitoring our bees and supporting pollinators with plenty of flowers
Staking dahlias before they burst into bloom
Keeping beds weed-free and mulched during warmer weather
Watering little and often as the days grow longer
The garden reminds us daily that great ingredients can’t be rushed. They simply need time, care and a little sunshine.
